When I'm not working on a custom hand knit accessory for a customer (like our custom hand knit pet sweaters, which will likely dominate my needles in a few months), I'm knitting something for myself. When I go on vacation, I ensure that I only do selfish knitting. I managed to finish my Stephen West Dotted Rays shawl in Hedgehog Fibers Skinny Singles, colorway Dove, while we were in New Mexico.
Have no fear - I planned ahead - I had more yarn with me (not that I didn't buy any while I was there mind you...more on that later). I cast on Joji Locatelli's Romeo shawl using Crave Yarn's Filigree fingering weight yarn, which is 75% wool and 25% silk - luxury knitting at it's best! What's especially fun is that Crave Yarn is owned by Amor Valdez, a native New Mexico independent dyer! This is her colorway Saltwater Taffy, which I admittedly bought two years ago when we were last on vacation in New Mexico...I confess.
But even more fun is that I got to spend a few hours with Amor, talking about our lives, experiences, businesses, and creative inspiration. It was truly a pleasure to sip chai tea with Amor and finally meet the kindred creative spirit in person, who, also understands and appreciates my love for all things New Mexico. A shout out to Amor for her hospitality during our visit!
